What makes it fun
In 1978, Richard Bloch was afflicted with terminal lung cancer, but he refused to accept his fate. Instead, he remained optimistic and fought back with aggressive treatments and the help of family and friends. The cancer was gone two years later. The first Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Park opened in 1990. The American Society of Landscape Architects' Central States Region awarded the Cancer Survivors Park in Kansas City a Merit Award for Design in 2009. A good mental attitude walk with 14 bronze plaques, a sculpture of eight life-size bronze figures walking through a maze portraying cancer treatment, and a "Road to Recovery" with 7 plaques explaining cancer and basic activities to effectively conquer the condition are all part of the park.
