What makes it fun
The Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center's mission is to commemorate and interpret the African-American diaspora, particularly in the state of Missouri, the city of Kansas City, Mo., and its surrounding areas, by fostering educational and cultural programs about the past, present, and contemporary contributions of African Americans who helped shape the city's and state's history and culture. The Bruce R. Watkins permanent exhibit space, children's workshop, resource library, auditorium, small gallery, and glassed encased exhibit area for tiny artworks and relics are all on the first level. The modest first floor gallery features drawings, paintings, and sculpture pieces by local African-American artists. The expansive second floor gallery features exhibits depicting African-American living throughout America's history.
