Jimmy Frantzé and Matt Nichols took their love of good food, fine wine, and excellent steak and used it to build one of the best restaurants in Kansas City: JJ's. Our chef here has brought a new twist to contemporary American cuisine, but you can still enjoy old favorites like the Paco Shrimp appetizer and the JJ's Pride steak, which is easily one of the best cuts in town. The Polsinelli Building provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for our guests, with just a touch of European class. Dining at JJ's is an event - a very welcoming one.

Dang-we had such high hopes. We were celebrating my mother’s 80th birthday. I had told them ahead of time but even with her birthday sash on it was pretty much ignored. I said something to our server and his reply “I figured it was her birthday”. I hate to complain about a server because he could have had an off day. Or maybe it was his first day, but he was clueless about everything. Thank goodness I heard another person mention the specials because the walleye special I got was delicious. Unfortunately the crab cakes two others got did not taste right. The loaded mashed potatoes were cold. The goat cheese purses were good but we really wish he would have told us 1 order would not be enough for a party of 5.

Food: I had one of the worst food experiences at a restaurant of this price point in my life. As recommended by my waiter, I ordered the pork chop. He said to get it medium because it was smoked. When the pork chop came out, it was more than well done. I could not even cut into the meat without shaking the entire table. After notifying the waiter of the issue, he asked if there was anything else on the menu I would like to order instead. I ordered the KC strip steak. After waiting for them to prepare the steak, when I cut into it, the steak was blue raw. It was not even cooked. I had to send the steak back to get further cooked and this whole time, my date had already finished her meal. 2/5 starsService: the server I had was very patient and kind. For every course I sent back, he offered to replace my silverware and overall had a positive attitude. He did a great job despite the failure of the kitchen. I honestly started to feel bad for the waiter because he kept apologizing for the issues even though it was not his fault. 5/5 stars.Atmosphere: for a restaurant of this price point, I expected the atmosphere to be better. The dining room was extremely cramped. When entering and exiting it was like navigating a maze trying not to hit other tables. The dining room was also tremendously loud with a party nearby occasionally laughing so hard they felt the need to clap. The table I was seated at, had a dirty ladder that the staff forgot to put away by the table. 1/5 stars.Overall, my waiter was very kind but the kitchen and atmosphere was horrid. I would not personally recommend dining here especially for big occasions like Valentine’s Day.

Elegant restaurant with exceptional food. Loved that it isn't pretentious. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive. Would highly recommend it.We went there to celebrate my wife's birthday and she wants to go back next year.

The food was disgusting. I ordered the calamari, the cheese board, and the shrimp. It was all nasty.

We love JJ’s! The food is always delicious, the service delightful, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Our most recent visit was on a Sunday evening, and Christopher, our server, was attentive, helpful, and friendly while our food was spectacular! Highly recommend and we always make sure we have at least one meal there whenever we visit KC!

I enjoyed it. Never had Lamb before the Rack if Lamb was honestly one of the best things I've ever had. My wife had the Salmon she liked it. But I also don't just eat at fancy places like this. It's pretty expensive. If you're looking for a bottle of wine the got from $20 to $9,000 I'm not an alcohol fan. Pretty quick food service. And honestly I think I'm just not fancy enough to truly enjoy the cuisine. I'd still come back

The mussels were delicious and I would definitely order them again. I was a little worried that the curry would completely overtake the dish, but the sauce was smooth and light and complemented the mussels.The wild boar ragu was super flavorful, and even better the next day when reheated. I actually reheated it with the leftover risotto and it was even better than with the noodles. The risotto is amazing and I really wish they would make the ragu dish with it instead.The only item ordered that I was not a fan of was the brussel sprouts. The balsamic was not reduced enough so the flavor of the dish was a bit off.Overall, the food was great and I will definitely come back to try other items.
