What makes it fun

If you are in love with a book lover, then you have to take them to the "Community Bookshelf" (also known as the parking garage of the Kansas City Public Library). This parking garage is cleverly disguised as an oversized bookshelf and encourages citizens and guests of Kansas City to get lost in the pages of a great book. The "Community Bookshelf" is the perfect backdrop for some cool pictures.

Not one single indication in the parking garage on where to walk to enter the library. Ended up giving up completely and leaving after walking around for 15-20 minutes in 5 degree freezing weather going up and down stairs and elevators. We still were charged 5 dollars to get out of the parking lot even though we called ahead of time and they said it was free on the weekends. Complete waste of time! Not visitor friendly especially if you are from out of town

Having learned of this site through a WhatsApp message that my father received a few months before my brother and I embarked on our few days in Kansas City, we made a little bit of time to see the Community Bookshelf. It is a site to behold. Artistically done so it really does resemble a bookshelf, there are many works shown on the side (there is a significance to it - many of these books have been banned in someplace or another). It's a nice photo opportunity. At the top of the road is a little statue of Mark Twain, too!

Parking was free as we visited on a Sunday morning. The area was very quiet at that time. We did not spend too much time in the area (not more than 10 minutes). If you're in Kansas City and have a little bit of time to spare, consider using some it to see the Community Bookshelf.

Stopped in while visiting KC and had to take a picture. I love the look of the books and how detailed they are.

Cool to see a city embracing something different. Photographing this place can be challenging. It's well worth the visit to check out quick. Only costs as much as the parking meeter if you want to stop.
