The food was absolutely amazing. I got the Farm sandwich. The downside is it's often very crowded. We ended up sitting outside on a wet wooden picnic table. We could have just left, but the food was worth it. The coffee is fine, nothing special. Pretty much what you'd find in any local coffee shop. However, because this place is so busy, it took us over fifteen minutes to get the coffee that we ordered to go with our meal. But again, if you can handle having your coffee part way through your meal and just taking it to go with you the food is well worth it. Bakery items are also delicious

i love this place dearly but they removed my favorite menu item recently (guacamole bacon burrito) so i wanted to write a review to ask for it back! i can’t give McClain’s anything under 5 stars though, as they have many more good items besides the one they took away. it’s a cute place that i enjoy visiting! i just wish they didn’t take away my favorite item lolll

Love all the food in this excellent Kansas City bakery, except the chicken salad but I think chicken salad can be personal. It was fresh and of course the bread was awesome but not my favorite recipe. The service is efficient wo making you feel rushed. Amazing given how busy it can be. The only thing I haven't liked is their coffee blend. Again, personal preference.

Awesome bakery. The food, the lattes and the pastries were delicious. I had the best breakfast smothered burrito on the planet. My wife had a huge Chicken Sausage Protein Bowl that was excellent.

Their veggie burrito was awesome (first and second iterations) and it was nice to have one close to home. Now they got rid of the veggie burrito and just put black beans instead of bacon on the pepper jack. Coffee there is hit or miss. Often time had kind of burnt tasting stuff but other times great. I'm sure the bakery item stuff is good but I don't eat much baked items so I probably won't be back since the regular veggie burrito is gone.

The pastries. The cookies. The coffee. Excellent! The space is great just a little chilly. But this is a gem in KC. And the Girl Breakfast is the best of all the good things to eat for all genders!

I hosted a cookie-decorating party for a professional organization here and it was wonderful! Mclains provided the cookies/icing/sprinkles for decorating as well as the food and beverages for our attendees so it was incredibly easy for event planning. Aubrey was great to work with to set this event up. Would recommend for any similar events. Also the holiday decorations were the perfect festive atmosphere.

I want to give a massive shout out to Mclain's Bakery and more specifically their Cakery. We had our wedding cake (Lemon with Butter Cream) and desserts (Apple Cider and Chocolate wwith Sprinkle Cupcakes) ordered from Mclain's and it they were massive hits. My wife and I loved the cake tasting session we had at the beginning of our shopping process and fell in love with the staff and atmosphere of Mclain's we also loved that we could support a local business. Mclain's made delicious sweet treats for our wedding and they were massive hits with our guests! We highly recommend using Mclain's for your wedding. We ordered from the Waldo location but are super excited that a new North KC location opened up, which is closer to us. We will be regular customers moving forward for sure.

We used McLain's for our wedding desserts and we could not have been happier. We used their cupcake sampler to try different combos and chose chocolate cake with peanut butter icing, almond cake with strawberry icing, and lemon cake with buttercream icing. We also had a red velvet cut cake that I had them customize into a baseball given my husband's affinity for the sport. Everything was delicious and a total hit at our reception! We barely had leftovers and received many comments on how good the cupcakes were!

We had the pleasure of McClain's catering our wedding cake and some little desserts for our wedding in October 2024. We had many people compliment the desserts and the wedding cake tasted amazing. The team was so easy to work and communicate with. Dare I say McClain's is Kansas City's best wedding cake/dessert shop??

We ordered a single-tier cake and a sheet cake for our wedding. The cake was delicious, reasonably priced, decorated well, and arrived on time. The only issue we ran into was a small bulge on the single-tier cake, we just turned that part to the back and it ended up in somebody's belly by the end of the day :)

We decided to do a milk and cookies bar fairly early in our wedding planning process, but still wanted a small cake just for the two of us. I had hoped to find an option that was simple, stunning, and gluten free. McLain’s delivered exactly what I was looking for. It can be hard to find a small wedding cake for a reasonable price, but we were able to get just what we were after with a two-layer 8” cake, which was the perfect size of our cake toppers! A classic Kansas City diner. Great spot for a casual lunch. My go-to is the double steakburger with regular limeade and a 50/50 (half onion rings and half fries). Their prices are very reasonable (base price for the double burger is currently about $5). You do have to pay extra for certain toppings, but the prices are still fair. Service is usually very quick. The burgers themselves are cooked well and taste great. Fries, tots, and onion rings are always crispy. If you want to have some extra fun, order a skyscraper (equivalent of 3 large shakes).

Stopped into McLain on my way back from from my morning walk. The place has customers. They have a wonderful selection . I've tried the danish. This morning, I got the red velvet cupcake. Can't wait to get home and have it with a cup of coffee. The coffer there smells great. I just don't want to walk home with it. Will have to try a visit where I stay for awhile instead of stopping on my walks.

My new go to for everything baked. It was so easy to order my items! From the first consultation regarding my custom order (Grace was AWESOME to work with) to picking up my order, everything was smooth sailing. I had an idea of what I wanted theme wise, but execution wise I was as clueless as the next when it came to how to make my order coordinate well. I ordered a dozen custom cookies and a 10” cake. First things first, they are so fairly priced. They may be underselling their talent in my opinion.🤷🏼‍♀️ Not to mention that the artist/designers who completed my order NAILED my inspiration pics. I’ll add those in my review for comparisons sake though the custom ones I got are Pinterest worthy themselves. Incredibly happy with how my order came together and I have no problem recommending McLain’s on Waldo to anyone who will listen!
