    What makes it fun

The Guild features a 6,500-square-foot indoor space with a large open ballroom, as well as a private 5,000-square-foot urban garden with caf lighting. The outside green space is a breath of fresh air in the center of the city, and it may be utilized for picnics, garden ceremonies, and other events, with plenty of parking nearby. With polished original concrete flooring leading to exposed brick walls and 12-foot windows, the interior venue exudes a particular antique character. A spectacular rescued 12-foot chandelier centerpieces a 20-foot hangar ceiling in front of a lovely bespoke bar. To complete the design, floor-to-ceiling subway tiles match our enormous family-style tables made of salvaged wood.

When booking a venue for your wedding, look no further than The Guild! When my husband and I were looking for wedding venues, we had our eye on The Guild early on in the process. We happened to tour The Guild first, and shortly after our tour we signed our contract and never looked back! Working with Chelsea was a DREAM. If we had questions or adjustments to our contract, we would get same-day responses and helpful feedback. The team at The Guild is extremely effective, friendly, organized and knowledgeable. We never had to worry about whether or not Chelsea and her team would deliver an exceptional space and bar, and they did not disappoint! Our guests were wowed by the overall look and feel of the space, the bar was well run and inviting, and The Guild team pivoted flawlessly when sudden thunderstorms began during our ceremony. I cannot recommend The Guild enough - book them!

Reception for new KC Symphony conductor. It was beautifully decorated and the finger food was delicious. Pleasant servers and ample parking.

If you’re reading reviews on Powell Gardens, I question whether you have had a proper visit because the property truly speaks for itself. Powell Gardens is one of those spots where you fall in love with the place. When my husband & I toured the Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel, I felt chills just walking the path TO the chapel - let alone being inside the chapel itself. Once guests saw the property and chapel themselves, there wasn’t a single question as to why we decided to get married 40 minutes outside of downtown Kansas City. To me, the drive is always worth it. The staff is kind & as knowledgeable as they are passionate about the gardens.

We had only our wedding ceremony at Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel & our wedding reception in downtown KC - out of a concern for guests drinking as well as proximity to more hotels.

Due to limited October availability, we landed on a Friday evening. Powell allowed us access to the study (getting ready building) from 2-6pm and the chapel from 4-6pm. We decided to have our ceremony at 4:30pm, giving us 30 minutes for sound check and guest arrival. We did not do any additional decor because (1) we didn’t want to deal with the set-up and clean-up and (2) the chapel doesn’t need it!

The chapel fits 90 guests comfortably, and 110 with chairs set-up in the back. We were very nervous about the amount of guests who would show up and, therefore, did not invite all of our reception guests out to Powell for the ceremony. On the day-of, the chapel felt full but no one was left standing outside.

We had a handful of ushers (friends) place reserve signs on the front pews, hand payment to the musicians, assist people from the bus and their cars to the chapel, direct them to the restrooms and hand out programs. One challenge we had was when guests arrived, they saw the restroom sign for the study and infiltrated our (private) getting ready suite. We suggest having an usher (friend) stationed near the study at least 40 minutes prior to the ceremony start time to direct guests to the restroom at the rear of the chapel if needed. Unfortunately, due to the drive out to Powell, guests will likely need to use the restroom upon arrival.

As ethereal as the chapel is, we highly recommend hiring live music to really elevate your ceremony. We hired a string duo, Forte Quartet, who set-up and played in the rear corner of the chapel. The sound of both the musicians and officiant was incredible, crystal clear, no guests' complaints.

We hired a Showtime Transportation limo for the wedding party and an executive bus for guests who traveled (and didn’t have a car). The bus went from the hotel to Powell to our downtown reception venue. After the reception, guests were on their own and it worked out fine.

All in all, Powell Gardens is well worth it and truly made our wedding day the most magical day of our lives.

There’s many reasons why The Guild KC is often named, “Best KC Venue.” As a wedding planning team that has worked with couples here several times, we are so lucky to see those reasons and action!

First – the space. You won’t find a better garden ceremony location, especially in the heart of KC! The cocktail area is perfect for transitioning into reception; and having two bars helps that flow even more. As the main event space has multiple wall features, our couples love that their albums are cohesive, but has a few different looks in it (brick, subway tile, etc).

Second – the people. Every single team member you will work with at The Guild - from touring, planning, meetings, and the day of - are so kind, down to earth, knowledgeable, and have a true heart for making sure you have the best day.

We are so incredibly lucky to call The Guild friends + team members in the KC Wedding Community ❤️

The Guild was a DREAM venue! We only toured one venue and signed the same day because we knew it was perfect. The venue had everything we wanted from the layout, to the outdoor area, to the old fashioned meets modern design/decor. Chelsea was amazing to work with during the planning process and everything the day of turned out exactly how we wanted it to! Have your wedding at The Guild--it will be the absolute best night!!

The Guild was 100% venue of my DREAMS and Chelsea was the cherry on top. You could not ask for a more helpful venue manager! She was quick to communicate, had expertise ready to share on what has worked in the past or what she would recommend, created mock-ups of our ceremony and reception set-up, answered 900 of my questions - she is truly a star and loves what she does.

The venue is stunning. It was the first one we walked through and I was sold. The bar is gorgeous, there are both bridal and groom suites, a garden space, an indoor cocktail space, and OMG...that chandelier. The floors are a statement and the variety of walls (brick, wood, subway tile, window panes, etc.) give you plenty of indoor space for all kinds of pictures. Oh - and did I mention reserved parking lots and plenty of bathrooms?

If I could do it all again, the only change I would make would be not wasting my time walking through any other venue. Best venue and venue manager in KC - hands down.

There is a reason The Guild continues to be voted the best venue in KC. Their knowledge and connections in the area are unmatched. The space is gorgeous and can be transformed into anything you can imagine.

I worked with Chelsea throughout our planning, and she was incredible! Her communication was quick, responsive and clear. Our wedding was delayed two different times, and The Guild was nothing but supportive and helpful in navigating the changes.

We chose The Guild because of the open layout, stunning chandelier and top notch bar selection, but it was Chelsea who really gave us confidence that everything would come together.
