What makes it fun

Let's start with the name, which is a nod to the Kansas City speakeasy The Hey Hay Club, which was located at 4th and Cherry for much of the 1930s. Visitors enter the bar through a discreet door on the distillery's ground level and are greeted by a reproduction of the sign from Robert Altman's 1996 film, Kansas City. The club itself features velvet and leather banquettes, plaid wingback chairs, a gorgeous crystal chandelier, and deep blue-green walls. The high-end appearance and feel of the bar may make it appear elite, but grouped seating, a blazing fireplace, and a range of board games move the energy toward cozy rather than exclusive.

Not worth the trip to the east bottoms or the money. Cocktails and bartenders are both sub-par.

We enjoy a nice evening at the Hey Hey Club on a Saturday night. It’s in the basement of the distillery. The atmosphere was low lights with comfortable seating and light music on. The service was friendly, helpful and timely. The drinks were made will with a good local bourbon. At the end the night we got the snickerdoodle cookies and they were huge!! And so good!!

Amazing drinks and atmosphere. This is a true Kansas City staple and a great bar to visit if you’re in town. I’m a local and love coming here for drinks. Think speakeasy feel. Inside the J Rieger distillery.

Outstanding bespoke & classic cocktails is the name of the game here. Including absinthe for those daring. Attentive but not intrusive service. And a nice array of excellent small plates. Experience a bit of Kansas City history.

The people at J. Rieger never disappoint and have time and time again put out the best product available.

The Hey! Hey! is one they nailed with every element.

Our second time visiting, this time during the Sippin Santa take over. The elite service and swanky yet comfortable atmosphere we experienced before was replicated once again, just with a tropical Santa twist.

If you haven't been, you should.

Sippin Santa was the best it has ever been in Kansas City!! Drinks were great,service was super attentive and the decor was perfect. Would go a 100 times if I could!

Dark, private, speak easy feeling. I felt transported back to the days of Prohibition. It felt like the 1920s. Great place to have a cocktail and a few peanuts. Bartenders were creative if you want non-alcoholic drinks, but expect food/drinks are a bit more $$$ here.

I went there this weekend (Sat 1/7) for my birthday and had a great first time experience! We started upstairs at the Monogram Lounge and then ended the night downstairs at the Hey Hey club. I wish I remembered names but the hostess was amazing and very gracious with our group of 7. After a little wait, we were all able to sit together. The bartender was fun to watch while making drinks and his suggestions did not disappoint. The cocktails were phenomenal. The service was great and I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday here!

My husband and I have a lot of memories centered around Thou Mayest (the original spot in the Crossroads) We had some of our first dates there, great times with friends, tiki parties and we got a lot of our wedding pictures taken there. We were absolutely devastated when they had to close that location. When River Quay reopened and I walked in for the first time, I tested up. It was so similar to the original place. It had the same vibes. Felt the same. It was warm and cozy and felt kind of like a cabin in the woods. Trees and plants everywhere, a bar, ample seating for everyone, eclectic decor and such a friendly staff. They had brought in these vintage green pockets that had been at The Crossroads location and we had gotten some wedding pictures taken in front of. Everything was just… perfect. The coffee and beverages were just as good as ever! This is somewhere I will come back to over and over again ♥️

Where to begin!? This place was incredible! We were blown away by how beautiful and swanky this bar was. The food and drinks were *chefs kiss* and our server and hostess were absolutely fabulous. We felt like a million bucks! The drinks were perfection as well. We don’t live in KC, but would absolutely come to this spot again next time we visit!

So glad I got to finally check this place out! All the drinks were fantastic. Had the flyby (so good!) and some others that I’m forgetting the names of 😊 The French fries and the ceviche were also delicious. Amanda and Joseph were great bartenders and conversationalists. I’ll be back for sure! It is a somewhat small place so I would recommend a reservation if you want to be safe!
