Robert Joseph relocated to Kansas City from Australia in 2012 to build his veterinary pharmaceutical company, but after retiring, his wife, Kate, suggested he follow his passion for cooking. The Josephs founded Banksia because they missed Aussie-style savory and sweet baked items and the caf lifestyle that was popular back home. What distinguishes an Australian-style bakehouse and caf from other bakeries? Australia has a huge multinational population that brought their dishes with them: the cuisines were reinvented and blended while remaining loyal to its essence by the Australians. The cuisine is a cross between breakfast and lunch, with simple comfort meals like meat pies and sausage buns that are packed with flavor. We specialize in gourmet sandwiches, salads, and breakfast, and we use slow cooking techniques and Australian-inspired ingredients.

Chicken Banh mi: 100% amazing, no notes, perfect sandwich, perfect lunch.

Vegemite Toast: you either love it or hate it

Lamington: OMG it’s like heavenly baby angels coming down to dance sweetly on my tongue; offering a precious whisper of coconut blowing gently over the delicious valley of chocolate and rolling hills of sponge and jam.

Coffee: Great

Service: Amazing

Snickerdoodle: My kid loved it

Close but not Sydney coffee. Maybe the best flat white in KC, but hey, lucky I’m visiting for the BBQ and not the coffee. Meals are seppo sized, naturally.

It’s always the nitpickers leaving low ratings. The ones probably spending $4K a month on a mortgage and $3K on Instacart. Complaining about the silliest things. Giving a restaurant a bad review because something was sold out? Come on. Try showing up when they first open!

Everything’s going up these days, so honestly, I think the prices here are fair. Anyway, I love this place. I usually order the same thing every time. The sausage breakfast burrito and it never disappoints.

This place is wonderful and the staff was so nice. Highly recommend! Every pastry we tried was truly delicious and the pear Danish and pavlova had us coming back for more.

Thank you for being so amazing and fixing the big mistake our DoorDashèr made and being so nice about it all.

Will for sure be our new regular every trip to KC

Food is delish, everyone is friendly, Murder She Wrote plays on the television, and the background music is always perfect! Plus they have fresh made Lamingtons!

Ordered from door dash. saddest ham and cheese croissant I've ever had. pale, dense and not flaky. I've had them from here before and I was really let down today. twice. bc I bought 2. now I'm questioning my whole life. why did I like these?
Also why is coffee not available on door dash? Only sodas. This was not my typical experience here, which is why I'm making this. The business and the people need to know. I'm a lady, but I feel like a disappointed dad right now
Edit to add:the 3 pies I ordered were delicious. Beef and cheesy potato, chicken/leek/mushroom/bacon and smokey vegetable. Have ordered them all before and they are consistently amazing. Was only let down with the croissants today

Loved the atmosphere. The beef and wine pie was absolutely amazing. As well as the Belgian chocolate cake.

I really enjoyed my experience here on a Sunday afternoon. I had planned to eat at Chipotle across the street but they didn't have any veggies so I abandoned that idea and ended up at Banksia. I am glad I did. The B.A.T with the side salad ended up being a very uniquely tasty meal. The service and atmosphere inside was also refreshing. They have plenty of great sounding dishes on their menu too so there is probably something for everyone. I would definitely go back if I am ever in the area again.
