As our entry into the Kansas City cuisine scene, we will specialize on handcrafted gyoza. We strive for an exceptional guest experience in areas other than what we bring to the table, such as relationship, atmosphere, and, most importantly, the memories guests leave with. We strive relentlessly to bring that magical experience to life, with the goal of Chewology being a region-focused, street food-inspired eatery that showcases local foods from Taiwan's streets, providing joy and inspiration along the way.

Tyler and Stella were amazing. Practically ordered our food for us. So happy to see the owner and chef working the night we went. Bad food and bad times don't exist at this place.

We visited Chewology last weekend when we came to town for the Ren Faire. We were exhausted, but wanted to take advantage of being in the city to get something different for dinner. I came across Chewology and was sold by the description. I had never been to a Taiwanese restaurant before, but have long loved dumplings and bao. Luckily, it was easy to make an early reservation, and I headed over with my family. The host, hostess, and waitress were very welcoming and we were seated immediately. The decor is visually interesting and vibrant, but also very cozy. The vibe was not intimidating at all. We got the menus and set ourselves to to the task of deciding what we would order. We each got mocktails to sip on while we perused the options - mine was called something like "the kingdom of fruit" and was FANTASTIC. I ended up ordering two. Our server, London, was bubbly and engaging. We could see into the open kitchen with the chef; it looked beautiful and calm. For three of us, to begin we ordered the dressed eggs (a must!), the fried chicken, chicken soup dumplings, kim chi and beef dumplings, and the pork and cabbage dumplings. Everything was well-seasoned and delicious - the eggs were a real standout. I'm not a fan of deviled eggs, but I lobbied to eat the last one. If I had to skip one, I'd say the kim chi and beef - the sauce tasted great (and had a kick but was not too spicy) but the filling was denser that I would have liked. I regret not ordering the filet-o-bao, just because it seemed so unique. We told London when we put in our order that we would probably want to get additional items, so as we made our way though the delicious dishes (came out staggered but not awkwardly so) we revisited the menu. This time we went for the char siu and the sticky rice. After we had ordered, my son and husband declared that they were stuffed, so took a walk around the block in preparation for the food that was still on the way. London was very understanding and asked the kitchen to hold our food for a couple minutes. The char siu was different from other pork buns I've had - I think they were baked instead of steamed, and the crust was more buttery. Very tasty. I loved the sticky rice - the chewiness of the rice and the perfectly cooked scallops and shrimp made it a delicious 1-2 punch, perfectly seasoned. We were so full that we had to take one of the buns home and half of the rice - I had to stop myself from eating more although I didn't want to! Admittedly it was not a cheap meal (~$50 each) but it was so worth it! We told London we hadn't saved any room for dessert - she totally understood our plight and kindly closed our check. On our way out, the bartender (I think) let us know that they just "happened to have a couple extra" birthday cake (blue!) mochi, so we got to much on those as we headed back to the car. I guess we found room after all - that was a very kind gesture. The mochi was soft and not too sweet - fresher than any I've had before. I heartily recommend that folks try Chewology if they are nearby and like bright, tasty food that is a step beyond "typical" asian cooking. I am kind of confused why it wasn't busier when we visited - maybe it was too early or maybe it is still a "hidden gem" that you can check out before it blows up. I think I saw something about a James Beard nomination, so they are being recognized for their quality and innovation. Or as my son put it, "I didn't like my dinner....I LOVED it!"

If ever you were to want to introduce someone to Taiwanese food, or soup dumplings - THIS would be the place to do it. Everything feels fresh, everything is delicious and the service is somehow both relaxed in tone, but wildly attentive (our waitress even chased us into the street because I forgot my sticky rice leftovers). This place was absolutely stellar.

This place is HORRIBLE and to be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS! The food was edible. At least, I didn’t get hepatitis or botulism from it. But you can do much better at a takeout Chinese place for a fraction of the price. My biggest complain about the place is that they are VERY DISHONEST and PRICE GOUGERS. I ordered some hot tea to accompany my meal (Taiwanese/Chinese, right?). It wasn’t listed on the menu, but I trusted that the price would be reasonable. When I got my bill, it was TWELVE DOLLARS ($12.00) for a small pot of Oolong tea, which most places would have charged no more than $3 or $4 for! I suppose that it’s my fault for not insisting on the price first, but it just shows how these people will take advantage of you at any opportunity. Dine with people who won’t rip you off. Even takeout Chinese is preferable to this. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.

Absolutely phenomenal food. The atmosphere is perfect, easy to talk in. It's definitely a little niche but I loved the design of the restaurant. Weston was amazing to have as a waiter and recommended the green lotus drink which was splendid! We had the noodle eggs which did not last long at all, nor did the dumplings. The appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all absolutely fantastic. We will most definitely be returning.

Thanks Chewology for a wonderful Chinese New Year! The food was awesome. We tried dishes from every part of your menu and it was authentic and tasty! Plus, the specialty drinks were delicious! We will be back!

What a wonderful experience! Great food, incredible friendly and warm service, and just the type of cozy atmosphere that warms the soul on a cold winter's night. My husband said: Can we come back tomorrow? Says it all! Congrats on creating such a great place to feed the body and the soul!

Some masking tape in my beef. But the waiter made it right. Food was pretty good, but a bit pricey for what you got. Xiaolongbao was lacking in flavor and not served with any dipping sauce.

This may be the most memorable, unique and delicious meal of my lifetime! I’ve never been one to go out for New Years or Valentines, but we celebrated the Lunar New Year by taking part in their special menu. IT IS AMAZING! And SO ORIGINAL. I’m stuffed because I had to eat everything presented to us at its freshest! Here is a picture of the main course. Every course came presented by the owner with a small explanation of its cultural significance. We love you and we’ll be back in 4 weeks and every 4 weeks after that! I also ordered their cocktail named To The Max. It’s a zingy boozy rum drink I liked enough to have twice. I give thanks to our ancestors and I’m sure to be blessed with prosperity in the new year!!

The dumplings are the best! It’s a fun casual place with an eclectic decor. Friendly staff but understaffed the evening we were there . Interesting cocktails, lots of small plates to choose from. Highly recommend!

The Antler Room is fantastic. The food is amazing, service is unbeatable, and drinks are always interesting. Mostly small plates, we like to get 4-5 for two people, but your server can help you map out a plan of attack. They're very good about food allergies as well - helping you easily steer clear of any issues. Can't wait to return!

Really wonderful food! First time here. Came at the recommendation of my daughter (happy birthday!!) and son in law, whose trip to Taiwan had sparked their love of the street cuisine there. Absolutley everything we ordered was gorgeous, perfectly prepared, and just a total treat! Service was fantastic, and the ambiance inside is much more than one would think from looking at the outside. I'm looking forward to my next visit!
