While staying at the hotel, my wife's car was stolen out of valet. The hotel did comp my room. However, management wanted to argue with me about a $66 food bill from the bar. My $18,000 car was stolen while in their possession, but they wanted my $66. The general manager never did take the time to speak to me after the incident. I was there for an additional 2 days (Conference, Mid-America Economic Development) after the car was stolen.
It took 45 minutes for them to steal my wife's car, and no one was checking on the security camera's or monitoring. This, in my opinion, is a huge dereliction on the hotel. I feel if I choose to stay in this type of hotel, my property should be safe, especially when it's in the hotel's possession.
I was attending this conference to help grow my business and was a sponsor for this conference event. However, due to the theft of our vehicle, I spent the entire second day on the phone with the police, our insurance agency, and driving around Kansas City to take care of the situation that the lack of security at the hotel put us in.
This caused me not only to waste money on the sponsorship. The fact that I wasn't able to market to any potential clients and wasn't available to attend the special event held that second day of conference. All in all, this experience cost me tens of thousands of dollars not only in lost personal property but also in potential business that I could have received from spending time at the conference.
I will never stay here again because of the lack of security, the fact that they acted like it wasn't important, and the fact that they wanted to argue with me after tithe fact because they still felt like I owed them something when I left. The food was overpriced, the rooms were small, and the customer service was openly lacking.
