Since 1996, Le Fou Frog has been a charming little piece of France and New York City, tucked away on the corner of 5th and Oak in Kansas City's River Market. Chef/Proprietor Mano Rafael and his wife Barbara invite you to come and experience fresh, elegant food in a relaxing and fun atmosphere. You'll feel right at home with our cozy tables, charming servers, and soft lighting. So please, won't you "be our guest!"

Had reservations for 2 @ 5:15 pm on a Friday and were promptly seated. Nadia (I think that was her name) was our server. She was great! Went with some of her recommendations and everything was delicious. Heard some people around us complaining about the lighting in the dining room (previous reviews mention it as well), but it didn't bother us. It's also a little hectic, and I could see where it might feel crowded to some people. Had we known the layout, we probably would've requested one of the small booths. If we find ourselves back in that part of KC again, we'll definitely go back.

My girlfriend and I celebrated our anniversary here last week and the staff and owners went out of their way to make sure the experience was top notch. The recommendations from the server were spectacular and the food was probably the best food I've had in Kansas City. This would be my top recommendation for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion and I couldn't have had a better experience.

Absolutley amazing. The ambiance is great and the food was amazing as well. Highly reccomend one of those hidden gems in KC that is definitely definitely 💎.

Le Fou Frog has charm, especially on the quiet River Market patio, but the food was uneven. The she‑crab soup and French onion soup were both solid, and the pommes frites were crisp and well‑seasoned. The baked brie, though, was a disappointment — doughy pastry and barely‑melted cheese that lacked the indulgence you expect from the dish. The entrées were stronger: the ribeye was tender and flavorful, the pork medallions nicely done, and the trout stood out with its accompanying compote. The ahi tuna was just average. Dessert redeemed things — the lemon blueberry bread pudding with ice cream was excellent. Overall, Le Fou Frog delivers some memorable plates, but the inconsistency keeps it from being a clear standout.

If I could give this place a million stars, I would. I celebrated my 29th Birthday last night (Friday night). I made a reservation a couple weeks prior for 8 people. The entire staff is incredibly kind, and anticipated all of our needs before we even knew we needed them! Claire was our waitress- she was so knowledgeable, helpful and efficient! She made our experience so fun and memorable. Thank you Claire! The ambience was top notch, very intimate, and the food was AMAZING. I got the escargot, oysters and scallops (that nights special), friends had the steak, escar no pasta, the seafood gnocchi, and the salmon, we all enjoyed everything! They brought me a glass of champagne, and desert for my birthday, truly felt so special! Thank you to the entire staff- and thank you again Claire our fiery Aries!

Perfect intimate atmosphere for a date night, or special occasion. Welcoming and attentive staff. Our waiter, Chris, takes the trophy for best service at this gem of Kansas City. The quality and presentation of each of the dishes we ordered were top notch. From appetizers to desserts, both the standard and du jour menus challenged our ability to choose. They have a very nice selection of wines to pair with any of their scrumptious entrees, or simply enjoy the very creative cocktails. Flavors on our food selections were expertly balanced and surprised our palates with every new bite. Table visits from the owner and chef completed our wonderful dining experience. I have been to Le Fou Frog three times over the past several years (first time was in 2012), and the experience has always been about the same. The building exterior and interior is small and quirky. I like it a lot. The food is pretty good, mixed reviews between me and my wife, and it's also very expensive for what you get. I believe you're paying mostly for the experience. The service has always been weird and/or pushy. I am guessing that the servers are asked to be strange, which is okay with me; but for some, it is probably a bit off putting. The little old French man who works here has been rude twice, and I wonder if this restaurant thinks Americans all expect French to be rude. No idea. My wife is European, and she is not impressed with this restaurant. If you want a very unique experience in KC, this is a good place to check out.

After nearly 3 decades, still one of Ka das City's most romantic little restaurants. Excellent menu/always delicious and one of the best steaks you'll get in KC. Prepare to be dazzled even more if they serenade you on an especially romantic evening...tonight we enjoyed Some Enchanted Evening performed beautifully

I've eaten here twice now and it's become one of my favorite restaurants. The food is fresh and savory and the decor is lovely. This restaurant is a 10/10 for me.

Beautiful service, amazing food, ambience was inviting and nice. Mussels never disappoint and pomme frittes were the best I have had honestly. They were fresh, crispy and light and airy. The steak, medium rare was peefectly cooked and the veggies and mash so so good. My Martini was flavored and I'm forgetting its name but it was delightful. Overall, a beautiful meal.

For our 3rd visit we took my father and stepmother to dinner both have worked in and worked for high end restaurants. They absolutely loved it. The food was great. Service was on point as usual. We don't skip this place whenever we're in Kansas City.

In the dark rouge colored dining room, you are surrounded by an eclectic ambiance that is both romantic and whimsical at once – a dichotomy of sensations fit for date night. The entrance is endearing, unpretentious, and inviting. We arrived early and had cocktails by the bar, enjoying some recommendations from the owner and learning more about the city’s attractions. When we were sat at our table, one is instantly cradled into the experience that is Le Fou Frog. We were presented with a menu that had enumerable amounts of food – my only regret being that I had but one stomach to fill. The specials were presented via chalk board, our eyes fixated on a couple of the recommended dishes. I will, to the best of my ability, try to describe this union of nirvana and culinary ecstasy; however, I know my words will not do it justice. Escargot: Glistening in the porcelain tarn, the snail shells bathed in a rich, buttery concoction. The pungent aroma of garlic, herbs, and butter wafted around the table enticing every sense of the human body. We made quick work of the dish, using our freshly baked bread to collect as much of the remaining sauce from the tarn as was possible. To describe this as catastrophically delicious is an understatement, it is life changing. Duck Confit: Duck is such a funny beast to cook, it is tricky with its fat and meat. The fattiness is both its strength and weakness; however, with careful handling and gifted hands it is to be placed among the highest realms of culinary mastery. The dish was absolutely insatiable, every crispy bite is a holy union of flavors and the fat – exquisite doesn’t come close to describing the dish. I highly recommend it, it will not disappoint CAILLE FARCI (Quail Stuffed with Foie Gras and Brioche): I remember having this years ago, it was as mesmerizing then as it was this evening. The quails, 2 total, were perfectly cooked and deboned, save the legs. The inside of the birds were filled with foie gras and brioche – perhaps the richest, most flavorful substance that has ever passed the barrier of my teeth into my stomach. Each bite was riveting, like listening to your favorite song – it never grows old. The dish was served on buttery mash potatoes, topped with perigourdine sauce. There is a hint of truffle and wine in the sauce, a true symphony of flavor. This is both a nostalgic dish for me, being the first one I tried here, but also an all time favorite. All in all, this is probably one of my all time favorite restaurants and I can’t wait to return. I would describe eating here as – utterly exquisite.

Incredible experience! The ambiance was perfect for an intimate dinner. The staff all work as a team- they excel at ensuring every guest has the right amount of attention needed. We even got to hear a performance from a talented server! The menu is well-developed and explained in detail. We couldn't be more pleased with our first experience and look forward to coming again when we are back in town. Thank you for taking this industry seriously with passion and attention to the small details!

We had a perfect meal for our honeymoon here. It was worth every dollar and our server, Ava, was incredibly friendly and sweet. She was knowledgeable and helped us pick between options when we got stuck. Everything we got was rich with flavors and perfectly seasoned. The entire restaurant was decorated for the holiday season, and the walls were covered in photos. We will be going back!

It is a small restaurant and every time the door opened, you get a chill. I had received a gift card and was disappointed in the quality of food. There was not a lot of flavor, and presentation left a lot to be desired. We had the French onion and Lobster Bisque. Both were very bland. My friend had the seafood special and only took 2 bites before pushing it aside. I had a vegetable lasagna like dish which had too much cheese and the flavors were not balanced. Our server was nice, and knew the menu, but seemed to forget us after food was ordered.

We went here for the first time with high expectations - Le Fou Frog did NOT disappoint!! The ambiance of the restaurant cannot be beat, nor can the food or service. We will be recommending Le Fou Frog to everyone and we will be back!

This French kitchen doesn't look like much from the street, but the decor is eclectic and the food is fantastique! I enjoyed the escargot (in the requisite indulgently rich garlic butter), the French onion soup, and the stuffed bacon-wrapped chicken. All was delicious. The service was attentive but not overbearing, which was wonderful. If I had to come up with a critical comment, it would be that the chairs on the patio need a little more padding. Should you find yourself craving French cuisine in KC, you won't go wrong with Le Fou Frog.

Don’t know why it took me this long to try this place out, since I’m obsessed with anything brunch related. I just loved the setting of this place, just the fact that it’s in Kemper Museum surrounded by eclectic art makes it worth the visit. We tried their biscuits and gravy, squash and goat cheese omelette and French toast with raspberry purée and ice cream. Such a good meal experience, I couldn’t get enough of the crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside smashed potatoes. The French toast was incredible and we didn’t even need the syrup because the ice cream and berry purée were all it needed. The omelette wasn’t anything special and next time I will probably try their cornbread and something more adventurous. Also wish they had more dessert options than ice cream. Definitely recommend this spot to all the KC foodies.
