    What makes it fun

Lula is a Southern Cookhouse that pays homage to Chef Owner Bradley Gilmore's roots in North Carolina. We even named the place after his grandmother! We serve lunch, dinner, and brunch at Lula. We take southern classics and give them our own spin, resulting in bold flavors that are irresistible. Our recipes are created from scratch and infused with love, just like granny's. We invite you to gather around and enjoy our southern cookhouse, where southern hospitality abounds. I hope to see you all soon! Nothing beats the comfort of southern food, from grits to gravy, fried chicken to shrimp boil. Not to mention the service.

Yeah, this place isn't that good. I paid $25 for a very small, unfilling bowl of "gumbo" - three pieces of sausage, some shredded meat, very few vegetables, and a very small bit of rice.

It was also EXTREMELY cold in the restaurant while we were eating. Where's the heat?

Our waitress was also inattentive (not going to name names) and failed to refill our water for a table of four several times, failed to refill other drinks as well and apologized saying she was just having "a day," and when we were leaving, I saw her just casually chatting with someone by the bar.

Food was awful. The mashed potatoes were like baby food. Shrimp and grits had 4 shrimp. Green beans were flavorless and undercooked. With how expensive it is I would expect much much more.

My family flew into KC on Thanksgiving and had made a dinner reservation for 6:30pm. We weren't seated until after 7pm. By the time our server took our food order for the special Thanksgiving dinner, we were first informed that they were out of rolls; then the waiter came back and told us that one of our main entrees--TURKEY--was also 86'd. Then our waiter returned a third time to tell us that they were now also out of the green bean casserole we ordered. So we had a pot roast and fried chicken Thanksgiving dinner. The food was mediocre. And our bill was $250 for average tasting food and we didn't even get the turkey dinner we had gone for. HOW DO YOU NOT PLAN BETTER SO THAT YOU DON'T RUN OUT OF TURKEY ON THANKSGIVING?!?

Stopped in for brunch! The orange Julius was one of the best cocktails I’ve had. Caleb was helpful and made sure we had an amazing experience!

was excited to try this, Black lady with braids was rude, i felt discriminated by our server who took 10 mins to come back, she didnt great us or say our name, it was clear from the beginning she didnt want to serve us, bc we looked like young adults.

It was like 16 of us that attended our reservation. Four of us food was not good to the taste. My Mississippi roast was too salty. The other 3 just simple weren’t satisfied with the taste. I don’t recall the details of it. One had the oxtails, another had the veggie dish and the 4th I forgot. But overall everything else was devoured

Food was delicious but Went during work and have been trying for weeks to get in touch with their team for a copy of my receipt and they are horrible at responding.

The food was expensive as to be expected for a nice place but the portions were super small for the price! Left hungry and my bill was $38 for one person so after tip $50

Overpriced southern food is all I can really think of when this place comes to mind. Each dish is easily $10 over priced or more. Also definitely nothing to remember with my taste buds, it was very average.
Also I will add that the person I was with hated the catfish.

Drink was good. Food took forever and my egg sandwich was so dry. It must have been sitting under the heater forever.

Our server, Isaac, was very attentive and helpful, but in a cool, laid-back way. The food (we had the catfish and fried chicken) was stellar and flavorful. They were out of the pot pie, but that gives us a reason to go back. The drinks were ok, but it may be worth trying some different ones than we did.

Warm and charming! Our server was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions! He was a delight! One.of the best chicken & waffles I've ever had and the dip trio is a must try. The biggest surprise was the collard rolls--great depth of flavor!

Wonder Southern cooking. Al food made fresh. I had the Pheasant with Rabbit steaw(forget the name) for appetizer. Then a wonderful Shrimp and grits with gravy. This is the best I found in KC area comparable to Charleston, SC that I use to eat. They Blackened Catfish was wonderful server with collard greens and dirty rice which had Andouille sausage. The service was wonderful, we were lucky to get in with out reservations, which I would recommend. The decor was wonderful great place for a date or ant time. They have a full bar and wonderful cocktails.

I was able to finally make reservations to check out Lula Southern Cookhouse and I am so glad that I did. Relaxing atmosphere, but definitely gets super dim when it's time for supper (so bring your glasses...and use the candle at your table). Loved being able to order different courses, but menu is definitely more seafood focused so everyone at the table didn't get to enjoy the Peel 'n' Eat Shrimp or the Triple Dip (allergies and their loss) because both of them were super tasty! I feasted on the Nola Pot Pie, which also tasted good reheated even though the crust wasn't crispy anymore, but I love that gumbo gravy inside. You have to at least try this place out, even though I did not enjoy the desserts, AT ALL, others in the restaurant were devouring it and the waitress went out of her way for me so I appreciated the extra effort. Will definitely go back again. Oh, and I need someone to package those Fire & Benne Crackers that come with the dip!
