My party of four enjoyed the Saturday Royal Tea experience at Wandering Vine at the Castle. The package requires prepayment of $40 per person, plus gratuity (20.4%) and fees, bringing the total to just over $200 before arrival.

The restaurant describes the Royal Tea as a classic English afternoon tea featuring a variety of sweet and savory delights, accompanied by a choice of premium tea or coffee. This description was largely accurate - the atmosphere and historic architecture were truly charming, enhanced by elegant holiday decorations. The food itself was excellent: the sweet and savory items were high quality, beautifully presented, and perfectly portioned for our group of four.

The tea service began promisingly with individual teapots, high-quality tea sachets, and a nice selection of sweeteners, honey, and lemon. Milk was provided in place of half-and-half or creamer.

However, the experience was hindered by the need for frequent hot water refills due to the small size of the teapots (slightly larger than a single cup). Each refill required flagging down our server, who was managing multiple tables, and then waiting for the water to be delivered and for the tea to steep again (3–5 minutes). Unfortunately, these requests were sometimes delayed or overlooked.

Additionally, we were advised to reuse the same tea sachet for multiple pots. While this might work well with larger teapots, the small pots and repeated reuse noticeably weakened the flavor and strength after the first infusion, which diminished the overall tea experience for those of us hoping to enjoy several quality cups.

In summary, the Royal Tea is a lovely option for guests planning to enjoy one or two cups of tea, perhaps supplemented by additional beverages from the menu. For those seeking a traditional afternoon tea centered on unlimited, high-quality hot tea, it may fall short of expectations.

That said, the outstanding ambiance, architecture, and food quality make this a special venue. I look forward to returning to try the dinner service in the future.

Thank you to the team for a mostly delightful afternoon!

Terrible customer experience. We made reservations and paid in advance for their “High Tea” event on December 20th. The reservation specifically stated it was from noon until 2pm. While dining, the owner approached us and indicated we needed to leave by 1:15 because another party had booked our table. She returned later and stated we needed to leave by 1:30pm. We told her the establishment’s reservation clearly specified until 2pm, but she stated she knew nothing about that and was firm about our 1:30 departure time. The owner was not honoring the terms of the reservation and clearly had overbooked the dining room/table…..making her patrons suffer the consequences. What is worse, when making the reservation, the price of the reservation included a “baked in” gratuity for services not yet rendered (a curious not-patron-friendly policy). Obviously, based on our experience, the establishment was decidedly over compensated from a forced gratuity perspective. Never go there again and will go out of our way to encourage others to seek a more patron friendly establishment.

Our staff chose Wandering Vine for our Holiday Season Staff lunch. We had 13 guests total and while I was asked to keep our affiliation private for the sake of this review, we had a variety of people all with differing pallets and expectations. Carla, Dan, Randi, and Brian were the most accommodating, welcoming, hosts for our party. We booked a private room in their wine cellar and it was extraordinary! We did a Chef's table, choosing from three main courses, then had the other courses served family style at Chef Brian's choosing. The Cod, Duck, and Steaks were perfectly cooked and everyone left feeling like we had been treated like family by the crew at Wandering Vine. The apps, salads, and sides were the perfect pairings to our meal and the flourless chocolate cake was the perfect decadence to end our meal. Because it was a "work lunch" we went N/A and the team paired NA mocktails with our main course choices. This was without a doubt one of the best culinary experiences I have ever experienced and our staff seemed to have the same sentiment. I can not wait to bring my family back for dinner sometime. Carla and Dan have created a beautiful gem in Shawnee and their team is top notch creative, warm, and professional. Top accolades on this incredibly memorable experience. Thank you.

Very few gluten free options and not willing to make simple substitutions to meet allergen needs.

My husband and I celebrated his birthday at Wandering Vine. It was a wonderful experience. He had the flank steak, and I had the pork shank. They were both delicious dishes. We had leftovers to take home as well. We will definitely be back.

First I would like to say the place is beautiful and cozy and very inviting. The food was sublime and every bite was an adventure, presented so that you feast with you eyes first and your nose second when the anticipation is overwhelming your taste buds achieve bliss with the first bite.

The staff where great and very knowledgeable with great recommendations. The food is locally sourced and inspired. Highly highly recommended

Visiting from out of town and stopped in for appetizers, dessert, and a wine flight. So glad we added this to our itinerary. The food was simply delectable, best I’ve had in years. The quality and service exceeded our expectations ten fold. Further, the prices were surprisingly palatable for such an exceptional meal. Anytime we’re back in town, this is a must for us.

We have now had two great experience here! The cocktails are all delicious. A good wine selection. The small bites also were very good. Staff is very friendly and the vibe is comfortable. Prices are as expected (around $15 per cocktail). We will definitely be back!
