Absolutely incredible experience at PS 1931! As a Diamond Reserve member, I’ve had the opportunity to experience the Phillips Hotel and PS 1931 on multiple occasions, and the speakeasy is honestly one of the highlights of staying here. I actually choose to stay at the Phillips specifically so I can experience PS 1931, which says a lot about how much I enjoy this place. Hidden in the basement of the historic Phillips Hotel in downtown Kansas City, PS 1931 has exactly the atmosphere you want from a true speakeasy—dark, intimate, sophisticated, and full of character. It feels like you’ve discovered something special the moment you walk downstairs. A huge shoutout to Vanity, who was an exceptional server. She was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience feel effortless. Her service genuinely elevated the night and made us feel incredibly well taken care of. And the cocktails were phenomenal. The lead bartender deserves serious recognition—the drinks were creative, beautifully presented, incredibly well-balanced, and clearly made with real skill and passion. The cocktail program is absolutely one of the reasons I keep coming back. My only disappointment is the recent change in hours. Since I specifically stay at the Phillips to enjoy PS 1931, it’s frustrating that they’re now closing an hour earlier each night. That lost hour really does make a difference when the speakeasy is such an important part of the experience. Hopefully the longer hours return, because this is a place you want to spend more time enjoying, not less. That small complaint aside, PS 1931 remains one of my favorite parts of staying at the Phillips. The atmosphere, incredible cocktails, and outstanding service from Vanity make it a place I’ll continue coming back to. If you’re staying at the Phillips or visiting Kansas City, definitely make your way downstairs—you won’t regret it.

Disappointing host ruined the experience Went to this speakeasy expecting a solid night out. The bartender was great — friendly, attentive, and made solid drinks. Unfortunately, that was the only bright spot. The host was completely useless. She sat on her phone the entire time and made zero effort to help or assist with anything. No greeting, no seating help, no check-ins, nothing. Just ignored guests while scrolling. It set a really poor tone for the whole visit and made the place feel unwelcoming. Bartender saved it a bit, but the host’s complete lack of effort was hard to overlook. Won’t be rushing back.

We are from out of town and had such a great experience here last time we came to KC. We made a reservation a week ago for 10:45pm. Confirmed via email 2 days prior. Our uber was running late so we called the front desk and told them we’d would be 5 mins later. They said no problem our reservation is still good. We arrive. Front desk tells us to go ahead into the speakeasy. When we arrive, the host tells us they’re closing and they already did last call. We said we had a reservation. He said they changed their hours 2 days ago. There were still about a dozen people in the bar. We arrived at 10:50 for our 10:45 reservation which we had confirmed multiple times. They turned us away. We were really disappointed in the lack of communication with us and amongst hotel/speakeasy staff. The service and drinks we had the first time we came were excellent, but the customer service this time was appallingly rude. No apologies. Just, “yup. Our hours changed.”

We were excited to try PS. We had heard about it from friends. We arrived after a business dinner. When we arrived the waitstaff was incredibly rude and despite being less than 50% occupied they made us wait **upstairs** for 30 minutes before we eventually left. AWFUL EXPERIENCE.

The drinks are fantastic and the atmosphere is great. This is a very sophisticated and quiet place away from all of the craziness of downtown. The history is also very cool.

This place has a great vibe. My daughter got married in the downtown area, and many of the wedding party and guests were staying at Hotel Phillips. They were able to accommodate a fairly large group, which was the perfect ending to the perfect night. And so convenient. The staff was friendly, and mixed great cocktails. I highly recommend this spot!

We made a reservation more than two weeks in advance and just received a call the day of our reservation that they needed us to move our reservation because they booked a birthday party during it. It's pretty obvious that the birthday party was booked after our reservation was made. Very frustrating and unacceptable to get a call literally the day of our reservation because now we cannot make reservations anywhere else on a Saturday night.

Haven't been here for a few years. I walked back in and it's exactly how I remember. Lu and Bri were hilarious and they mix a good drink. Can't wait until I'm back in town again. They need to bring back the secret door though...

PS was a great speak easy, there drinks were very good and had a great selection of drinks to choose from the staff was very attentive and never left us waiting, nice and clean, featroooms were also clean, i recomend this place.

Came here for a Thursday night date night and had a great time. There is live music on Thursday’s, so it can be loud but if you enjoy jazz and know that going in then it’s absolutely worth a visit! The service was good and the drinks were delicious. The P.S. Margarita is one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Make reservations.

Wow this is absolutely the place to go for happy hour. Specializes in cool cocktails and tapas. This is worth coming out of your way for if you can make their happy hour. The good: happy hour specials are great prices for probably some of the best tapas around. The special cocktails are also amazingly good. Service is nice and fast. Orders were accurate. The meh: selection is very centric on tapas. Prices outside of happy hour are very normal (high) for the area. The bad: none!

After a horrible experience at Swordfish Toms with a group of people we came to PS which was a great atmosphere and they are very accommodating. Drinks were great! I do wish they had a little large selection of higher end. Most of what they had is what people keep in their home bars or honestly at any other bar. I really love finding new whiskeys, bourbons and aged rums that I haven’t tried or are hard to get when I come to places like this! Not a complaint at all just honest feedback on if there is something to improve that would be it. We truly enjoyed ourselves.
