This is my bar pick for special occasions. Everyone has always been friendly and helpful when picking out drinks. It's a place to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Easily my new favorite "hideout" in KC. Low light charismatic speakeasy with top tier service and cocktails. Recommend dressing upper casual as to keep the ambiance, however that is not a requirement. Also, cash only, and drinks start in the $15-20 range, so come prepared.

I'm definitely one for unusual and different as well as historical. This place nails all 3. A lot of places "try" to do what comes naturally to Swordfish Tom's.
I'm also always on the lookout for interesting drinks, variants on classics; once again, they nailed it. This place should be on everybody's radar, though the fact that it is not and is hidden makes it all the better.
The staff and owner are very welcoming, fun, interesting and accommodating.
From the entryway in the alley, to the octopus, to the green light and eventually to Maude...you cannot find a better place in KC.
Cocktails are all amazing; they speak for themselves. Bleu Cheese wash?!? Mushroom syrup!?! INCREDIBLE!!

MUST COME!! Best cocktails ever! Becks was a delight and very knowledgeable and friendly, and Tim was a cocktail ninja back there with the speed! The atmosphere is phenomenal. Don't come to town without visiting this gem. We will definitely be back.

Heard so many good things about this place. Found it, walked in was immediately turned off by whoever it was at the door acting like they were too good to be bothered by us. Opened the door told us to wait abruptly and then slammed the door in our faces. When we went inside there were barely 10 people in the entire place the vibe was stupid to put it mildly. I can't imagine anyone going here for any reason. A snobby rude experience by children that want to pretend to be adults Is the best way I can describe it. Was absolutely absurd to say the least. Watch the owner's childish response..

Swordfish Tom's is a true speakeasy. The initial entrance is tucked away into an alley & the bar is down in a dark, yet decorative basement. Plus this drinks are great.

Feels like an authentic speakeasy experience. The bar is in a basement off of an alley. They only allow a certain amount of people inside at a time. There is red or green light if you could enter. Spacious indoor seating and didn’t feel crowded. It is CASH ONLY. ATM inside with only $1 fee. Be prepared to be brave with the cocktails (or order a gin and tonic).

Fun speakeasy vibe bar, it's cash only but they do have an ATM on site. Staff was very friendly and they have a wide array of cocktails to choose from. No food offered so we chose to grab dinner before then enjoy cocktails after. It's entrance is on the side of a building, you follow down some stairs into a waiting room and the host brings you in when there's room. Cool vibes, getting in with 2-4 wasn't difficult but larger groups might have trouble sitting together. Highly recommend to make a visit.

Waited 10 mins (party of 4).
Great atmosphere: no loud music is a god send these days. I can finally have a conversation with people.
Drinks were delicious and the menu did a great job with the descriptions.
Paid $13 per drink.
Service was excellent also. Drinks came out quick. Great find in KC.
